Clinician Engagement Video Tip #7: Engaging Nurses in Grateful Patient Fundraising Programs

Nurses and patients have a unique relationship. Many times, a special bond develops during this vulnerable period in a patient’s life. Over their hospital stay, patients come to depend on the nursing staff. When they leave, the patients often want to express their gratitude in a tangible way, but often, nurses are reluctant to have that conversation. How to respond to expressions of gratitude was not part of nursing education.

Nurses in this video share how they overcame their discomfort, how they came to understand that giving back is part of the healing process, and how they were able to redirect grateful patients to the foundation.
