
Data Engineer
GOBEL is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our team in a remote working environment. In this role, the candidate will contribute to managing and optimizing data infrastructure, ensuring the collection, organization, analysis, and maintenance of data in our data warehouses. To be qualified for the Data Engineer position at GOBEL, the candidate will possess a strong understanding of data engineering, dimensional modeling, analytics, and ETL/ELT automation in a Microsoft Azure-based data warehouse environment created to support the company’s solutions in business intelligence dashboards, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
The ideal candidate for this role possesses 5+ years of experience working in an enterprise data warehouse environment. This position will be responsible for:
- Modernizing existing data warehouse systems and infrastructure
- Developing and maintaining dimensional data models for analytics
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining pipeline automation using dbt and Prefect
- Improving existing code base to increase scalability of data architecture
- Collaborating with business intelligence and machine learning developers
- Supporting customer-facing teams with ad-hoc data requests and production support
- Implementing automated testing, data quality checks, and maintaining code documentation
- Working with customer data teams to review and validate data specs against requirements
This position is a technical engineering role requiring effective technical leadership and problem-solving skills. The qualified candidate will be comfortable in evaluating existing systems, identifying areas of opportunity, and making informed best-practice recommendations for implementation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data engineering and/or data architecture including designing, developing, managing, and optimizing automated data pipelines that support business intelligence and machine learning systems.
- Capable of effectively working and maintaining collegial relationships in a remote environment and collaborating across multiple time zones.
- Experience in creating, deploying, and supporting ELT and ETL pipelines using dbt and Prefect.
- Experience in retrieving and sending data to/from various sources including, but not limited to, nightly batch processing of flat files, direct database queries, and API calls. Proficiency in understanding API protocols (e.g., REST, SOAP), authentication mechanisms (OAuth, API secrets), and handling various data formats (JSON, XML, CSV) is preferred, particularly in the context of creating and maintaining data pipelines.
- Experience in implementing automated monitoring, alerting, and logging mechanisms within data pipelines, including proficiency in error handling and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and systems reliability.
- Experience in developing dimensional data models (e.g., star, snowflake, constellation, etc.) to support the design and development of end-to-end data warehouse solutions for business intelligence purposes.
- Experience in supporting business intelligence solutions maintained in Power BI and Tableau, including the optimization of data models to improve dashboard performance and usability.
- Experience with cloud-based data services and technologies, with an emphasis on data warehouse solutions deployed in Microsoft Azure.
- Experience using Git-based version control systems including an understanding of best practices for maintaining clean and efficient code repositories.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, APIs, data warehouses, and managing large datasets.
- Deep understanding of data warehousing, data modeling, governance, and architecture.
- Excellent relationship-building skills across cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with reporting and analytical tools like Power BI, Tableau, etc.
- High attention to detail, responsiveness, and project management abilities.
GOBEL offers compensation in the range of $130,000-$150,000 based on experience. In addition, GOBEL offers excellent healthcare, including company-paid employee coverage for medical, dental, vision, prescription coverage, disability, and life insurance, and retirement savings plan (401k) with a company match. We also provide twenty (20) days of annual paid time off, and twelve (12) paid holidays.
