$10M+ healthcare gifts in November 2023:
- The Bezos Family donated $137M to Edesia Nutrition to provide life-saving foods to malnourished children caught in humanitarian crises.
- Blackbird Labs, a life sciences accelerator, launched with a $100M donation from the Stephen and Renee Bisciotti Foundation for research collaborations with Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the Lieber Institute for Brain Development.
- The Snow Medical Research Foundation is investing $100M AUS in the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research to establish the Snow Centre for Immune Health.
- The Pan-Mass Challenge donated $72M to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, bringing the athletic fundraiser’s giving to over $1B since 1980.
- Hoag received a $50M gift from Richard H. Pickup, establishing the Richard H. Pickup Center for Brain Health focusing on clinical care for memory and cognitive disorders, including Alzheimer’s and related dementias, associated behavioral disorders such as anxiety, agitation, depression, and other mood disorders afflicting aging populations.
- Royal Philips received a second round of funding, a $45M donation, from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to accelerate global adoption of AI algorithms on Philips Lumify Handheld Ultrasound.
- Halton Healthcare received a donation of 105 acres, appraised at $45M CAD, from the Walker Wood family to help meet the future healthcare needs of its Ontario communities.
- Franciscan Health Foundation received the largest gift in its history, $30M from the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation, which will create the Dean and Barbara White Cancer Center at the new Franciscan Health Crown Point hospital.
- Micron Biomedical received $23.6M from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to fund mass production of needle-free vaccines utilizing Micron technology to expand the accessibility of the measles-rubella vaccine in developing countries.
- University of California San Francisco – John Muir Health announced a $25M gift from the Hofmann Family Foundation establishing the UCSF-John Muir Health Jean and Ken Hofmann Cancer Center to propel advancements in cancer care, clinical trials, research, and support services in designated locations of the UCSF-John Muir Health Cancer Network.
- The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center will establish the Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing following a $25M donation from Howard Meyers.
- University Hospitals received a $20M gift from Dee and Jimmy Haslam supporting the new University Hospitals Haslam Sports Innovation Center which will strategically identify, support and invest in the world’s best innovations in sports medicine, providing a catalyst to improve performance, reduce injury risk and promote healing for stronger, healthier professional and recreational athletes.
- London Health Sciences Foundation received a $20M CAD donation from the Verspeeten family which will name the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre.
- PolyBio Research Foundation received a $15M donation from Vitalik Buterin via Kanro, a philanthropic fund, for Long COVID research and clinical trials.
- The University of California Davis Health announced a $15M donation from Shriners Children’s supporting clinical trial testing a stem cell treatment for spina bifida.
- The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Grainger College of Engineering received a $12.5M gift from Vishnu Vardhan, MD to establish a center that blends computing and medicine to combat chronic disease and improve wellness.
- The Cambridge Children’s Hospital received a £10M donation from the Julius Jones Trust to support the development of the children’s hospital and provide mental and physical health care together.
- Rise East celebrated a $10M gift from an anonymous donor supporting the organization’s 10-year plan to invest in education, health, public safety, and professional and economic development to help Black children and families in East Oakland thrive.
- Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology received a $10M donation from alumnus Joan Klein Jacobs and Irwin Jacobs to support the new Center for Precision Nutrition and Health, including endowing the center’s executive directorship, two postdoctoral fellowships and funds to advance faculty innovation and student experiential learning – all named in honor Mrs. Jacobs.
- Altru Health Systems committed $10M to the City of Grand Forks, ND to support a proposed multi-sports complex, supporting wellness for the community, which will be named the Altru Sports Complex.
- Furman University received a $10M donation from David and June Trone to establish the Trone Center for Mental Fitness.
- The University of Florida Jacksonville graduate campus, which will focus on medicine, technology and engineering, received a $10M donation from CSX Corporation.
- Intermountain Health announced a gift of $10M from the Blake and Sandy Modersitzki family, supporting the new Primary Children’s Hospital.
- The Hospital for Special Surgery received a $10M gift from Jonathan and Lizzie Tisch to support expansion and construction of the Kellen Tower in New York City.
- Henry Ford Health received a gift of $10M from an anonymous donor to establish a lung cancer tissue repository and bolster lung cancer research.
- Sharp Healthcare received a $10M donation from Laurie C. McGrath supporting the capital campaign for its medical campus in Serra Mesa.
- Northwell Health received its largest gift in its history, an undisclosed amount, from Victoria and Lloyd Goldman naming its new medical pavilion the Victoria and Lloyd Goldman Medical Pavilion.
