$10M+ healthcare gifts in April 2026:
- The University of Texas at Austin announced a $750M donation from Michael and Susan Dell, bringing the couple’s total support of the university to over $1B, to establish the UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research and the UT Dell Medical Center. The UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research unites UT’s research, advanced computing, and clinical care in an integrated environment; UT Dell Medical Center is a patient-centered model that connects prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and discovery through AI and advanced computing.
- The Ballmer Group donated a total of $110M to three universities:
- California State University, Los Angeles received $48M supporting the Master of Social Work and School-Based Family Counseling Programs.
- California State University, Dominguez Hills received $29M to launch Toros Heal LA, providing scholarships, licensure preparation, and other resources for 700 undergraduate and graduate students in social work, marital and family therapy, clinical and health psychology, and school and college counseling. The university will also establish an undergraduate paraprofessional pathway in its Human Services program, preparing students for jobs in the behavioral health field.
- University of California, Lost Angeles received $33M to launch or expand three programs, involving undergraduate, graduate, medical and postdoctoral trainees in the department of psychology, the department of social welfare, and the department of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences.
- OpenAI Foundation announced a $100M grant for Alzheimer’s research supporting six research institutions. The grants aim to support and accelerate Alzheimer’s research—generating new data, helping design new drugs, and expanding possible paths to treatment.
- Providence Saint John’s Health Center received a $10M bequest from the late Stan Lucas. The gift supports prostate cancer research, patient care, and establishes the Stanley H. Lucas Endowed Chair in Urology.
- The University of California, Berkeley celebrated a $90M planned gift from Lynn Barr. The gift supports scholarships for students in the School of Public Health.
- Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla announced a $75M donation from Ernest and Evelyn Rady. The gift supports and names the newly opened patient tower, the Rady Tower.
- The University of California Davis received a $75M donation from Kathy Chiao and Kenneth Hao. The donation supports the new small animal hospital, veterinary scholarships, animal-human translational medicine, and programs for those unable to afford veterinary care.
- Beilinson Medical Center celebrated a $50M donation from Henry and Susan Samueli. The gift supports and builds upon the Samueli Integrative Cancer Pioneering Institute.
- Pediatrics philanthropist Tom Golisano made additional donations, supporting and naming children’s hospitals, and welcoming these hospitals into the Golisano Children’s Alliance:
- Tom Golisano made a $50M unrestricted gift to Akron Children’s, naming the Akron Children’s Golisano Campus.
- He made a $40M donation to Dayton Children’s Hospital, naming the Golisano Comprehensive Care Campus.
- Lastly, he committed $35M to Avera, naming the Avera Golisano Children’s Hospital.
- Humber River Health celebrated a $50M CAD gift from Jay and Barbara Hennick through the Hennick Family Foundation. The donation, supporting research, patient care, and education, names the Hennick Humber Hospital and the Hennick Humber Hospital Foundation.
- Purdue University announced a $20M donation from the Ricks Family Foundation. The gift establishes the Purdue Institute for Healthcare Systems Innovation within the Mitch Daniels School of Business.
- Yale School of Medicine received a $10M donation from Bukhman Philanthropies. The gift supports YSM’s Yale Child Study Center and two initiatives within the center, Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and the Anxiety and Mood Disorder Program.
- Toronto Metropolitan University celebrated a $10M CAD donation from the McCall MacBain Foundation, supporting scholarships for students studying nursing and other healthcare disciplines.
- PeaceHealth announced a $10M donation from Fred Kaiser and Grace Borsari. The gift supports expanding medical care at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
- The American Cancer Society received a $10M commitment from Stanford Health Care to build a Hope Lodge to provide free accommodations and support services to cancer patients and their families in the Bay Area.
