$10M+ healthcare gifts in September 2024:

  • City of Hope announced a $150M gift from Emmet Stephenson Jr. and his daughter, Tessa Stephenson Brand. The gift supports pancreatic cancer research, including establishing the Stephenson Prize supporting scientific investigation.
  • Organizations across Upstate New York celebrated $360M in gifts from Tom Golisano. Among the 82 organizations receiving support were:
    • Rochester Regional Health ($20M)
    • Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center ($10M)
    • Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo ($10M)
    • Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital ($10M)
  • Mayo Clinic announced a $50M donation from Stephen M. and Barbara J. Slaggie. The gift supports expanding cancer care and clinical trials at the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • The University of Chicago Illinois announced a $36M donation from Herbert and Carol Retzky, naming the Herbert M. and Carol H. Retzky College of Pharmacy.
  • Children’s National Hospital received a $35M donation from the United Arab Emirates to support research and care for pediatric patients.
  • Northwestern University received a $32.4M grant from the Hevolution Foundation to study proteostasis, the processes by which cells maintain protein health for good overall health and to prevent diseases of protein misfolding.
  • The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley received a $30M grant from the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation to establish the UTRGV Diabetes Center of Excellence.
  • Emory University celebrated a $25.9M donation from the Marcus Foundation to advance lifesaving stroke research at Emory University School of Medicine and Grady Health System’s Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center.
  • Hoag announced a $25M gift from the Martin and Pickup Families, supporting inpatient and outpatient services for those living with alcohol and substance use disorders.
  • The University of Michigan received a $25M grant from the Weiser Charitable Foundation, launching the Weiser Family Center for Breast Cancer.
  • The IWK Foundation received a $25M CAD donation from Myron and Berna Garron to support mental healthcare and addiction services for youth in the Maritimes.
  • The University of Toronto also announced a $25M CAD donation from Myron and Berna Garron to support the construction of the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health.
  • The Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Obel Family Foundation donated DKK150M ($21.9M USD) and DKK30M ($4.3M USD), respectively, to establish Best of Us, an initiative to address youth and adolescent mental health in Denmark.
  • UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health announced a $25M donation from the Hamon Charitable Foundation in support of the pediatric campus to be built in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District across from UTSW’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital.
  • Baylor College of Medicine Celebrated multiple transformative gifts supporting medical education and the construction of the Lilly and Roy Cullen Tower.
    • The Brown Foundation donated $25M.
    • The DeBakey Medical Foundation donated $16M.
    • The Sarofim Foundation donated $10M.
  • Meharry Medical College celebrated a $20M anonymous donation which will benefit the school’s various programs and scholarships.
  • City of Hope received a $20M donation from Norman and Melinda Payson to support research and treatments for pancreatic cancer and diabetes.
  • The University of Pittsburgh celebrated a $18.5M commitment from the Orland Bethel Family Foundation to support the Orland Bethel Family Musculoskeletal Research Center.
  • The American Heart Association announced a $15M donation from Sally Ross Soter to support the Go Red for Women Venture Fund, investing in health companies that target cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurologic solutions for women.
  • London Health Sciences Centre received a $15M CAD donation from the Solcz Family Foundation to construct a new Windsor-Essex acute care hospital.
  • The Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California announced a $12.5M donation from Jerre and Mary Joy Stead to support clinical and research innovation benefitting neurosurgery.
  • Northwestern University announced a $10M donation from the Les Turner ALS Foundation in support of ALS research and care.
  • The Mayo Clinic celebrated a $10M donation from the Harper Family Foundation to support education in artificial intelligence that will help prevent and cure more diseases through new solutions for patients.
  • Salem State University received a $10M anonymous gift to create the Clipper Scholarships. The scholarship supports students in the Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services and the McKeown School of Education.
  • Georgetown University received a $10M donation from the Leonsis Family. Part of the gift supports MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Verstandig Pavilion.
  • PeaceHealth celebrated a $10M donation from David and Patricia Nierenberg supporting PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Foundation’s emergency department.
  • The PMF Foundation donated A$10M to create a partnership between Cabrini and Monash University to provide precision cancer therapies for Victorians.
