$10M+ healthcare gifts in June 2024:

  • The late-Paul Durocher donated his estate of $140M CAD to multiple Montreal health organizations. The foundations of the Heart Institute, the CHUM, and the St. Mary Hospital Center received more than $42M CAD, while the Society of Saint-Vincent de Paul received more than $14M CAD.
  • Cedars-Sinai Medical Center celebrated a $100M donation from Jim and Eleanor Randall and the Randall Family Foundation. The gift names the Jim and Eleanor Randall Department of Surgery and aims to strengthen research and training programs and provide critical resources to the department.
  • The Amir Family Foundation donated $54M to the University of Haifa in Israel to support the establishment of a new medical school in collaboration with Carmel Medical Center in Haifa and Clalit Health Services.
  • The University of Rochester celebrated a $50M donation from Tom Golisano to create the Golisano Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Institute at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
  • UC Irvine School of Biological Sciences celebrated a $50M donation from Charlie Dunlop. The gift will create an endowed fund that will provide unrestricted support for academic and research activities within the school.
  • The Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children in Los Angeles celebrated a $50M estate gift from Meyer and Renee Luskin supporting long-term sustainability for the organization.
  • Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey celebrated a $30M donation from Andrea and Anthony Melchiorre. The gift supports the newly-named Melchiorre Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
  • Melmark, an autism and developmental disabilities services provider, announced a $30M donation from an anonymous The gift will help Melmark provide care and continue to employ a highly skilled workforce, as well as allow the provider to continue offering adult services.
  • Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH announced a $25M donation from Joe and Linda Chlapaty in support of the Institute for Mental and Behavioral Health Research. The gift will fund research, endow faculty to recruit researchers, and construction for new facilities.
  • Queen’s University in Ontario celebrated a $25M CAD Donation from Cara and Murray Sinclair. Their gift establishes the Cara & Murray Sinclair Cancer Research Institute.
  • The Salk Institute for Biological Studies announced a $20M gift from the Nomis Foundation. The gift supports research into the crosstalk between the immune and nervous system and the role it plays in health and disease.
  • Mayo Clinic received a $20M donation from Dwight and Dian Diercks. The gift supports the Dwight and Dian Diercks Presidential endowment, Mayo Clinic Platform, healthcare AI and innovation, and creates the Heidi Diercks Krause Fund in AI Innovation for Cancer, named in honor of Mr. Diercks’ late sister.
  • Old Dominion University celebrated two gifts marking the integration of Eastern Virginia Medical School into Old Dominion University in June 2024:
    • The university announced a $20M donation from Dennis and Jan Ellmer to provide scholarships for students pursuing health sciences degrees at ODU.
    • Additionally, Joan Brock donated $20M to support a new academic health sciences center to be named Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.
  • The Hospital for Special Surgery announced a $12M donation from Kenneth C. Griffin to support orthopedic research and care. The gift establishes the Kenneth C. Griffin Research Accelerator and will also support construction of the HSS Kellen Tower, a new headquarters for joint replacement surgery and complex orthopedic problems, expected to open in 2025.
  • Temple Health’s Fox Chase Cancer Center received a $10.8M estate gift from the late-Concetta “Chet” Greenberg, supporting The Marvin and Concetta Pancreatic Cancer Institute.
  • NYU Langone Health celebrated a $10M donation from Nicki Harris and the Harris family naming the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Ambulatory Care—Bridgehampton.
  • The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute received a $10M donation from the Ge Li & Ning Zhao Family Foundation to support oncology nursing, establishing the Ning Zhao & Ge Li Family Initiative in Nursing.
  • The University of Illinois Chicago announced a $10M donation from Christine Schwartz; her donation supports creating a Nurse Anesthesia Program.
  • The Winstar Institute received a $10M anonymous donation supporting the planned Center for Advanced Therapeutics; the donation adds to the donor’s prior $20M in support of the center.
  • Northwestern Medicine announced a $10M donation from Kenneth C. Griffin creating the Kenneth C. Griffin Esophageal Center.
  • Endeavor Health in Illinois received a $10M donation from William (Bill) and Karen Davis to establish the Davis Family Center for Preventive Genomics. The virtual Center of Excellence will focus on establishing personalized medicine and genomics testing at designated Endeavor Health primary care clinical locations.
  • Imperial College London celebrated a £10M donation from Victor Phillip Dahdaleh and the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Charitable Foundation to support heart and lung research, supporting the refurbishment of the Dr Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Building and creating the Dr Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Graduate Centre for Respiratory and Cardiac Sciences at the National Heart and Lung Institute.
  • The St. Boniface Hospital Foundation announced a $10M CAD donation from the late-Miriam Bergen. The gift will support two items at the Winnipeg hospital: $5M CAD for construction of the emergency department and $5M CAD supporting the St. Boniface’s Cardiac Sciences Program.
