$10M+ healthcare gifts in September 2023:

  • Henry Ford Health received a $375M gift from the Gilbert Family Foundation, establishing the Nick Gilbert Neurofibromatosis Research Institute and bringing a collaboration with the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab to Detroit in honor of the late Nick Gilbert.
  • City of Hope received a $100M gift from Andrew and Peggy Cherng and the Panda Charitable Family Foundation, creating the Cherng Family Center for Integrative Oncology, bringing together Eastern and Western medicine, advancing research, education, and clinical care.
  • Virginia Tech University received a $50M gift from the Red Gates Foundation supporting hiring and research projects at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute.
  • Northwestern University, in partnership with the University of Chicago, announced the creation of the National Institute for Theory and Mathematics in Biology thanks to a $50M donation from the Simons Foundation and National Sciences Foundation.
  • The University of South Florida received a $25M donation from Tampa General Hospital, naming the USF Athletics District and the Tampa General Hospital Center for Athletic Excellence which will feature key space for clinical behavioral health services.
  • Supporting surgical and critical care upgrades to Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Richard Schulze donated $25M to Allina Health.
  • Cedars-Sinai was given $25M from the Alfred E. Mann Charities to create the Alfred E. Mann Single Cell Precision Medicine Center at Cedars-Sinai, which will focus on single cell biology research.
  • The University of San Francisco – John Muir Health Cancer Center received a $20M gift from the Behring Global Education Foundation, supporting the Campaign to Conquer Cancer and naming the Behring Pavilion.
  • The University of Michigan announced they received a $20M gift from Philip and Nicole Hadley, naming the new Hadley Family Recreation & Well-Being Center.
  • Phoenix Children’s announced a 10 year $14.8M pledge from Panda Express and named the new Panda Cares Center of Hope playroom.
  • Nationwide Children’s Hospital received a $10M gift from the Nationwide Foundation, supporting affordable housing initiatives as well as genomic medicine.
  • Houston Methodist received a $10M donation from the John M. O’Quinn Foundation, supporting research, education and patient services related to neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Gloucher College announced a gift from alumna Judy C. Lewent, naming the upcoming Judy C. Lewent ’70 Science Innovation Center.
  • NOSM University in Sandbury, ON received a $10M CAD donation from the Temerty Foundation supporting medical students, advancing and growing social accountability, and health equity initiatives.
