$10M+ healthcare gifts in August 2026:
- The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington received a $540 million, 10-year grant from the Gates Foundation on August 12, the largest gift in IHME’s history. The grant expands IHME’s Global Burden of Disease study, growing its coverage of global health data from roughly 925 locations to nearly 5,000 to help governments and health leaders make better informed decisions.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital received a $25 million grant from Kaiser Permanente on August 11 to expand the hospital’s Hope Emergency Center and address a severe shortage of emergency care capacity in South Los Angeles. Kaiser Permanente is also providing a $7 million modular building on loan to maintain patient access during construction. The investment represents the largest philanthropic commitment in MLK Community Hospital’s history.
- Intermountain Health received a $25 million gift from the Las Vegas Raiders on August 24 to help build Nevada’s first stand alone children’s hospital. Raiders owners Mark Davis, Egon Durban, and Michael Meldman each contributed $5 million, with the organization contributing an additional $10 million. The gift names the Las Vegas Raiders Bistro and the Las Vegas Raiders Inpatient Rehab Gym inside the planned 828,000 square foot facility, marking the largest philanthropic commitment in franchise history.
- VHC Health received a $17.5 million gift from Arlene Evans and Barry Dewberry on August 11 to establish the Arlene Evans and Barry Dewberry Cancer Center in Arlington, Virginia. The new center will offer medical, radiation, and surgical oncology, hematology, infusion therapy, diagnostics, imaging, research, palliative care, and survivorship services, with an opening planned for summer 2028.
