$10M+ healthcare gifts in January 2025:

  • Ohio University announced a $70M gift from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation. The gift supports the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, research, scholarships, and establishes a matching challenge.
  • Parkwood Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre announced a $65.75M CAD grant from the Workplace Safety Insurance Board, establishing the Occupational Injury Prevention and Treatment Network.
  • Hoag Hospital Foundation announced a $50M donation from Diana and David Sun – bringing their commitment supporting constructions of the Sun Family Campus in Irvine, CA to $100M.
  • Undue Medical Debt, formerly RIP Medical Debt, received a rare third gift from MacKenzie Scott. The $50M gift supports purchasing medical debt in bulk from hospitals and debt collectors to provide relief for patients.
  • The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria announced $50M in donationd — from the Gates Foundation ($40M) and Foundation S ($10M) – which launches the Climate and Health Catalytic Fund.
  • The University of Mississippi Medical Center announced a $25M donation from John and Sandy Black supporting the UMMC Cancer Center and Research Institute’s campaign to build a new patient care and research facility.
  • Nova Southeastern University received a $20M bequest from David Husman in support of ALS research and establishing NSU Health’s David and Cathy Husman Neuroscience Institute, its Cathy J. Husman ALS Center, and the David and Cathy Husman Endowed Chair for Neuroscience.
  • BC Children’s Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation announced a $15M CAD donation from Save-On-Foods, supporting the development of an interventional psychiatry initiative and established an endowed hospital chair to pursue research and care innovations in mental health and substance abuse.
  • The University of Maryland Baltimore and the University of Maryland College Park announced a $10M joint gift from Edward and Jennifer St. John and the Edwards St. John Foundation. The gift launches the Edward & Jennifer St. John Center for Translational Engineering and Medicine, a collaboration between the University of Maryland School of Medicine at UMB and the A. James Clark School of Engineering at UMCP. Together, researchers from these distinct disciplines will tackle a broad spectrum of generational health challenges and drive medical innovations that benefit patients in Maryland and beyond.
  • Cedars-Sinai announced a $10M gift from David and Meredith Kaplan, establishing the David and Meredith Kaplan Presidential Chair, advancing healthcare leadership and innovation in Los Angeles.
  • The Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University received a $10M gift from an anonymous donor for student financial aid.
  • MD Anderson Cancer Center received a $10M gift from ExxonMobil supporting the Be Well Beaumont Initiative to reduce cancer risk and promote wellness in East Texas.
